This magnificent book may be considered one of the major publications on paintings of a
modern Iranian artist. Massoud Arabshahi has chosen Avestan motifs as the background for
his work. Reproduced here in brilliant color and superb quality are 80 original paintings
by the artist. To make this volume fully comprehensive and to further the readers'
appreciation and enjoyment of its art, the publisher, Niavaran Cultural Center, has with
the help of a group of scholars, reproduced parts of the Gathas of Avesta in four major
languages—Pahlavi, Persian, English, and French. The English translation of the
Gathas are by S. Insler and Darmsteter. The French translation of the Gathas are by
Duchesne-Guillemin and Darmsteter.
